3 Day Tanzania Safari - Ngorongoro Crater and Serengeti

ARRIVAL
 

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) or in Moshi/Arusha, you will be warmly welcomed and transferred to your hotel. Check-in, relax and enjoy the hotel’s amenities as you prepare for your upcoming safari adventure or explore the surroundings and a briefing about the safari itinerary may be provided in the evening.
 

DAY 1: NGORONGORO CRATER TO SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK

Your safari begins early in the morning with a 5:30 AM departure from Moshi, carrying a picnic breakfast and lunch. By around 9:00 AM, you will arrive at the Ngorongoro gate and descend into the spectacular Ngorongoro Crater for a half-day game drive. 
Inside the crater, you’ll have excellent chances of spotting lions, buffaloes, elephants, warthogs, hippos, zebras and wildebeest, with the rare possibility of seeing black rhinos. Birdlife is also abundant, including flamingos, crowned cranes and vultures. 

Around 12:30 PM, you’ll enjoy a picnic lunch at scenic spots such as Hippo Pool or Lerai Forest. After lunch, at approximately 1:30 PM, you will ascend from the crater and continue your journey toward Serengeti National Park via Naabi Hill Gate, enjoying a game drive along the way. 

The landscape transitions beautifully from lush highland forests to the vast, open plains of the Serengeti, passing through traditional Maasai lands. By around 6:00 PM, you will arrive at your accommodation where you will have dinner and spend the night.

DAY 2: FULL DAY GAME DRIVE IN SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK

The day begins early at 6:00 AM with a sunrise game drive in Serengeti National Park, one of the best times to witness predators actively hunting. You may either return to camp for breakfast or carry a packed breakfast to continue exploring uninterrupted. The full day is dedicated to discovering the wildlife-rich central Serengeti or venturing toward the Seronera River Valley, a hotspot for animal activity.

Throughout the day, expect encounters with the Serengeti’s famous big cats lions, cheetahs and leopards along with large herds of zebras and wildebeest. You may also spot elephants, hyenas, hippos and crocodiles.

For a unique perspective, you can opt for a hot air balloon safari at an additional cost. In the evening, you will return to the same accommodation, allowing for a relaxed experience followed by dinner and overnight stay.

DAY 3: SERENGETI TO MOSHI

On your final day, you have the option to start with an early morning game drive from 6:00 AM to 8:00 AM for a last chance to witness the Serengeti’s wildlife at its most active. Afterward, you’ll return to camp for breakfast before beginning the long journey back to Moshi, which typically takes 7–8 hours. A picnic lunch will be enjoyed along the way.

During the return trip, you may choose to stop at Olduvai Gorge, an important archaeological site or visit a traditional Maasai village (optional and at extra cost). You are expected to arrive in Moshi between 5:30 PM and 6:30 PM, with drop-off at your hotel or at Kilimanjaro International Airport if required.
