Start your day in Materuni Village with an immersive and enriching coffee tour experience. As you walk through the lush, green coffee farms nestled on the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro, you’ll have the chance to pick ripe coffee cherries straight from the trees and learn every step of the traditional processing method from pulping and drying to roasting the beans over an open fire. Guided by local Chagga farmers, you’ll also discover the cultural significance of coffee in their community, all while surrounded by breathtaking natural scenery. The experience ends on a high note as you grind the freshly roasted beans and enjoy a delicious, aromatic cup of coffee made entirely by your own hands.
Around 12:30 PM, take a well-deserved break and enjoy a relaxing lunch in the village, often featuring fresh, locally prepared dishes that give you a true taste of the region. Afterward, set off on a scenic and refreshing hike to Materuni Waterfalls. The trail takes you through rolling hills, banana plantations, small streams and vibrant tropical vegetation, offering plenty of opportunities to take in the stunning landscape and snap memorable photos along the way.
Upon reaching the waterfalls, you’ll be greeted by a spectacular cascade of clear, cool water plunging into a natural pool below. Take your time to swim, unwind or simply soak in the peaceful atmosphere of this hidden gem. After your visit, begin your journey back, returning to Moshi or Arusha in the late afternoon, feeling refreshed, inspired and deeply connected to the natural beauty and culture of the area.
